But Pappu Can't Stream Ssala

I was reading Contentsutra for latest happenings in Indian media sector. I was amused the way WEB 18 / Network 18 venturing in India and their perfect understanding of Indian online user. I think this investment will payoff, this is only matter of weeks the Network 18 will have good user base.

All said and done, but one thing I failed to understand is that their Music content strategy. Every track is straight URL, and downloads to browser.

Look at this example on music.in.com

Its instant, fast, good quality audio. But no streaming, masking MP3 url, and it is straight forward.

So folks, what are you waiting for, you know how to listen the brand new music now, till the time they do something about it. Or this is kind of "YouTube" strategy!?

iPredict - 08

Advertising – Media

- Behavioral targeting will be the buzz word on online advertising and Yahoo will lead in this sector.
- More start-ups in ad serving / ad network, at least a half a dozen will come up in first two quarters of 2008. Those will be mainly focused on behavioral targeting and personalization.
- Non search and display advertising will increase its share, may be to double to its present figures.
- YouTube, sorry but, Google will still be finding ways to make good revenue models, will not be successful.

Mobile

- 2008 will mark the rise of mobile web users, and so applications based on Android will see much success
- Google will buyout Jajah or any other company with similar services to provide mobile AdSense AdWords. So that user can make free calls to advertiser (Product / Service Company)

Online Video

- New start-ups in online movies / TV shows will come up, especially from India / Asian countries
- Joost will still be struggling to get user base
- We will see more new Joost alternatives, with better viewing experience. May be Vividas will come up better solutions in coming year

Social Networks

- Facebook will see some decline; also will finally roll out the behavioral targeting ad platform
- Google's Open Social will be adopted by many other partners, but may not see good response from developer community (like Facebook)
- As guessed by many, social bookmarking Digg will be bought over by big brother
- Twitter, good guess will also be

Online office

- Microsoft will roll out the free office online, paid services for corporate
- Google will expand more docs, will lead this sector by third quarter
- Zoho, one of my favorite India based start-up will be acquired by Yahoo

How to Paint a Portrait Digitally

Oh yeah, a post after a long gap... but now, I can not resist myself to post the following video from visuarios.com, a new video sharing site.
Amazing video teaches how to make a portrait...kudos to Artist

BTW, visuarios.com is a website to share videos about everyday knowledge among everyday people... in short, its all about "skill" videos. I really enjoyed.

Added sense - Video Ads

Online video is blinking everywhere, in new forms with new business ideas. Now, Google launched the Video Ads to its Adwords / Adsense. I too like simple text links against annoying heavy videos/ flash banners on my site. But yes, this feature is awesome, read here how this works. Some folks expressed that it may not work, as user may not be interested to view any big branding commercial of a product he is searching for. But I think otherwise. You got to understand thin line between regular branding commercials vs. a video on product description. For example, I would like to have a look of a house/flat before I visit the real estate person or a resort. It can be inexpensive video production. This 'Video Ad' step, will surely make sense. Only thing we have to wait and see is how Google works out the 'user experience'.

Economic Patriotism

Earlier it was Arcelor with Mittal Steel, and now it happened to UB /Mallya (by Taittinger).
Read the detailed story here by Hindustan Times
This is clearly European protectionism against globalization. In 90's West / Europe was bullish behind third world countries for globalization policies, investments and take-overs and reached almost every corner of the world. No body in the third world has a chance to escape but implemented/followed the globalization policies. Mc Donald’s, KFC, Colas, Insurance, Banking and tens of retailers started chains or took over major local brands (Parle' and others), and their strong network. No body protested against it, but realized the transformation.
When Mallya (highest bidder as per media) tried to acquire Taittinger, local groups resisted his bid, saying they did not want a non-French owner, what? helloooo.. Where were those folks when US-based Starwood Capital acquired them last year? Actually it’s more than patriotism, its business racism.
They look for billions deal with Airbus against US based Boeing, but they don't want Asian roots on their soil! Enough of colonialism, west domination dude! India is now not just a service colony for west, we are emerging, we are ready to give the world our innovations, entrepreneurship, products and service! I always have respects to the west for their innovations, entrepreneurship but dude… it’s high time. We also there now!
My respects to all great entrepreneurs and their efforts to taking India, a global player!
